Strangers in Seattle

Image
I spend so much time trying to look unapproachable, I mean I legitimately make an effort to avoid eye contact and always wear headphones in public, but for some reason people cannot stop talking to me.  Even on my grumpiest days I have homeless guys saying to me "hey, you dropped something! ........ your smile."  Although, I guess... if I didn't look grumpy... that probably wouldn't have happened... ANYWAY. The point is it was happening so frequently, I started writing it down... Yup, I'm that lame.  The problem is, it's happened so many times that I literally have about twenty encounters to report by now. The best thing about this post is that it was going to be just five of them today - but then something happened which demonstrates my point so perfectly, that I had to change that. ENJOY! 1. The cute little guy who sounded like Mickey Mouse and looked like a little old man disney character. Let me paint you a little picture... January 2017,

Spring Break: San Diego, Bro

MARÍA ^^ It would appear that I need to start this blog by firstly, retracting a statement I made in my last post, where I referred to Hannah, as my new-found bestie.  I had briefly, in a moment of what can only be described as utter insanity, completely forgotten that the title of bestie was already taken by Megan.  Hannah is my number one bae... Both equally important titles. Secondly, I need to publicly apologise to María who was not mentioned in my previous post, which is bizarre because clearly she is a very beautiful and wonderful individual and very funny and the reason for my laughter... or something along those lines... Okay, everyone happy now?  I'll try not to piss anyone off this time. San Diego: Day One SO.  We arrived at our Air BnB in Mission Hills, San Diego on Saturday 18th March at about 9pm... just in case there was a crime or anything at that time, that's where we were, okay? In hindsight, I'm not sure it was the best location

Spring Break: How Not To Travel

Image
I am so bad at travelling, especially when you consider I've travelled quite a bit.  I think maybe I'm just one of those people who are destined to fuck up a little bit with everything they do.  That's okay though, if nothing else, it entertains others and likely makes them feel significantly better about their own, comparably minor failures.  This travel experience was no different to my usual shenanigans from airport to ... well, two days in. I guess it really all started many weeks ago when we first booked our flights to LA for Spring Break! WOOOOO SPRING BREAK.  *cough* ... anyway.  There are five of us going and we all agreed to go to one of the girl's apartment one day to plan it and book the tickets.  The plan is to fly into Los Angeles, drive to San Diego for a couple of days and then back to LA for the rest of the week.  I'd been having a messed up week, as usual, and totally forgot.  Also, for some reason I just didn't consider the fact that you n

Ten Things I Found to Complain About my First Two Weeks in Seattle

Anyone who's anyone knows that I complain a little bit...  a substantial amount....  a lot. It's kind of my thing, but I honestly don't really mean most of the things I complain about.  I think it's kind of a British thing too, complaining is just how we make conversation, I don't think we even realise half of what we're saying is complaining.  I'm just going to blame England. So before you read this, I just want everyone to be fully aware that I'm very happy and incredibly grateful that I have the opportunity to travel and study abroad etc, complaining is just part of who I am. 1. Americans. Let me just start by saying that Americans are great and I actually love them.  Mostly the way they pronounce things, you know, like "oregano" and "Caribbean".  They're so friendly and helpful and nice, that I actually get suspicious of their intentions (just wait until you read my post about overly helpful Tinde

Next stop, Seattle! [JAN 2017]

Actually, first it was Detroit... then Seattle... but that's not quite so catchy. I don't really talk about it much, but I'm kind of a horrible flyer!  I think it's because I've travelled quite a bit, so people probably just assume I'm totally chill about it - and to be honest, I used to be so so good at it - but now half the time I'm a total wreck, which is kind of embarrassing.  My first long haul flight was London - Bangkok with a friend from college, before then my longest flight had been a few hours around Europe.  I figured it would be fine, lots of movies... the flight was at 22:35, so I'd just sleep through most of it, right?  Nope.  I was in the middle seat, squished between my friend and a middle aged man.  I didn't sleep at all, and had a minor panic attack five hours in... we weren't even half way.  I just remember crying and saying "I can't do this! I need to go home!" and my friend replying, "well, I don&
